There will only be 9 of these monsters like the one launched in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Built of carbon fibre, the 12-cylinder Veneno spits 750 horsepower of extreme venom, and does 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds!

World's most expensive sports car launched on an aircraft carrier in Abu Dhabi!

When was the last time you heard of a car “launch”, it meant something like a rocket launch? Well not a rocket may be, but the Veneno roadster, Lamborghini’s latest car, was launched yesterday at a ceremony held aboard an aircraft carrier docked in Abu Dhabi! Not surprisingly the ‘Cavour’ too is Italian and by the way, the Spanish word ‘Veneno’ means, venom!

With a top speed of 355 km/h, the 6.5 L powerhouse emits a knockout 750 hp. The mid-engine, all-wheel drive model features a quick-shifting ISR transmission with five modes, and a racing chassis with pushrod suspension and horizontal springs. The Veneno Roadster carries a price tag of 3.3 million Euros (AED 16.5 m) excluding taxes.

The Veneno will be a collector’s prize as Lamborghini has created only nine.

“It still [has] the Lamborghini feeling but more extreme,” said Christian Mastro, General Manager in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The thinking was going into downforce, air flows.” The Veneno is all about aerodynamics. The front end is more like an aerodynamic wing, while Lamborghini says the rear fenders split from the car body alludes to the world of racing cars while optimising the airflow. At the back are four large exhaust pipes divided by a splitter. The engine bay is ventilated by large openings that direct airflow to the adjustable rear wing.

The Veneno employs a monocoque design similar to the LP-400. The lightweight carbon fibre inside and outside means the Veneno Roadster has a dry weight of just 1,490kg, and a power-to-weight ratio of 1.99kg/bhp.

The launch featured the model in ‘Rosso Veneno’, or Veneno Red, exclusively created for the prized roadster but each of the nine owners can have their way with their car.

The Veneno launch is part of Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary blast. Lamborghini will also hold a 50th anniversary owners meet in Dubai, with 50 owners joining the bash with their Lambos for a driving experience around the emirate from December 15th to 17th. Will those lucky 50 also have a couple of the luckier nine among them?
