NISSAN GT ACADEMY MIDDLE EAST TELECAST ON MBC

If you thought gaming and real life racing are poles apart, here is proof, it isn’t. Eight of the Middle East’s best racing game players are all set for the 19th of May, when they go head-to-head for the ultimate prize – to move from ‘virtual to reality’ and become a race driver behind the wheel of a 370Z.

The International final of GT Academy Middle East will be aired on MBC Action starting Sunday 19th May across GCC and Levant.

Five episodes of GT Academy Middle East will run on MBC Action starting from May 19th, every Sunday for five weeks. Original Airing, 11 PM Sunday (Arabia Standard Time). Reruns on following days. Check MBC Action schedule.

Now in its fifth year, GT Academy is a collaboration between PlayStation® and Nissan that uses the virtual world of the Gran Turismo® game to unearth real-world racing talent.

Previous winners of GT Academy are now regular racing drivers. So next time someone throws a smirk at you when lying down legs stretched in front of gaming machine, throw them a smile back. You could soon be waving at them from the podium at Yas!

3 UAE TEAMS IN F1 SCHOOLS WORLD FINALS

The F1 in schools programme aims to introduce engineering into the classroom through the excitement of F1 racing sees student teams develop and build all aspects of an F1 team. In addition to designing, building and racing small scale F1 cars, the teams are also tasked with designing a team identity, collateral and uniforms as well as securing sponsorships and marketing their teams.

Three teams – ADROIT INFINITUM from The Indian High School in Dubai, Strike Automobiles from The School of Research Science in Dubai, and All-female Emirati team Popcom from Al Shohub School for Girls in Abu Dhabi – of the UAE’s best and brightest will represent the country in the F1 in Schools World Finals in Austin, Texas later this year.

The two-day competition saw teams participate in a series of competitions that included team presentations, a team pit stop display, and head to head racing. In addition to the overall champion title, the team won Best Engineered Car but it was another team from The Indian High School, VELOX, who earned the Fastest Car Award. Taking top spot in the F1 Junior Challenge 2013 Competition was Blazing Flames from Al Yasmina School, Abu Dhabi.

FIRST SPORTS MANAGEMENT BOOK IN UAE LAUNCHED

The first ever book examining the burgeoning growth of sport management in the Middle East was launched in Abu Dhabi last week by His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

Titled Sport Management in the Middle East: A Case Study Analysis, the book’s contributors were Arab sporting legend Dr. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE); Dr Sean O Connor, Director of the ATCUAE; and leading UK academic Dr. David Hassan from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland.

FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Spa for Audi

At Spa, Audi started from the three best positions with the R18 e-tron quattro and after the six hours of racing mounted the podium with all three driver teams. Audi won the Belgian WEC round a year ago as well.

DUBAI ONE OF THREE GLOBAL CITIES TO HOST ‘INTERSECT BY LEXUS’

The space will be developed by Masamichi Katayama,the world-renowned interior designer and founder of the interior design firm Wonderwall.

Dubai has a special place on the Lexus Map. ‘Intersect by Lexus’ is a unique space where people can experience the brand without getting behind a steering wheel. Neither a dealership, nor a traditional retail space, guests will be able to engage with Lexus through design, art, fashion, culture, movies, music and technology. The first ‘Intersect by Lexus’ will open in Aoyama, Tokyo, in the summer of 2013, followed by locations in New York City and Dubai.

INFINITI OPENS FIRST SHOWROOM IN HQ HK

Last year, Infiniti moved its global headquarters to Hong Kong, a bridge to emerging markets in China. Now, the new showroom, called Infiniti Gallery, will be situated in the heart of Hong Kong’s commercial district.
