Last week, the 911 Targa was once again in the limelight when the latest avatar was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show (Detroit Motor Show). This model is the first to combine the classic Targa concept from 1965 with state-of-the-art roof technology.

The PTM all-wheel drive is standard in this rear-weighted design.

Modern vs classic

The model shares a great deal with the 911 Carrera 4 cabriolet models, such as the window line and technology. The wide rear end that marks every all-wheel drive model, the Targa bar and the dome-shaped rear window give the latest 911 an extremely sporty appearance and a low-slung profile.

Keeping with the original Targa, the new model features the characteristic wide bar in place of the B-pillars, a movable roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window with no C-pillar.

Unlike the classic models, the roof segment on the new Targa can be opened and closed at the push of a button.

Two model variants, exclusively with all-wheel drive

911 Targa 4: 3.4-litre engine/ 350 hp/ Top speed of 282 km/h/ Acceleration in 4.8 seconds from 0 – 100 when equipped with the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Sport Chrono package/ All-wheel drive / Fuel 8.7 to 9.5 litres/100 km depending on transmission / CO2 emissions level 204 – 223 g/km

911 Targa 4S: 3.8 litres / 400 hp / Top speed: 296 km/h / 0 – 100 kmph acceleration: 4.4 sec (when equipped with the PDK and Sport Chrono package) / Fuel consumption: 9.2 – 10.0 litres per 100 km depending on transmission, CO2 levels: 214 – 237 g/km. These figures are on a par with the 911 Carrera 4 cabriolet models
