Across winding mountain roads, beautiful coastal stretches and desert landscapes, the Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East would have covered over 1200 km by the time the participants cross the finish line at the Sustainability City, Dubai, today (January 26th) at 2.00 pm. All are welcome to attend the community celebration with exciting family activities, kids electric car race and inspiring talks from the participants of the road trip.

The road trip was launched on the 18th at the World Future Energy Summit, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and rolls to a befitting stop at the Sustainability City in Dubai in the presence of H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, other dignitaries and electric car enthusiasts.

The road trippers visited and camped at Madinat Zayed, Abu Dhabi, Sohar, Muscat, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah along their way. They installed and used charging stations along their stopovers at InterContinental and other hotels. The fleet of electric vehicles that participated in the road trip consist of a trio of Chevrolet Bolt EVs, a BMW i3 as well as a Tesla range of Model S cars – 75D, 90D and P100D – and a Model X.

The event will offer the public a chance to get behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Bolt EV or a Tesla model for a test drive. A series of workshops will get them closer to the low-emission technology that powered the fleet across this landmark distance, and answer their questions on how often do they need to be charged, how far can they go, where can they be charged and so on. They can also mingle with the participants of the road trip, who include racing legend Doug Hebert, Chris Ramsay – the first person to complete the Mongol Rally in an Electric Vehicle – and Alex Hirschi, the media personality better known to social media as ‘Supercar Blondie’.

Besides rock climbing, face painting, flower planting, arts and craft stalls and a giant bouncy castle, children have a lot to look forward to. They can drive their own mini electric cars in the UAE’s first-ever Kids Electric Vehicle Race and three of them could go home with their own electric vehicle!

Dubai’s first Sustainability Marketplace will feature a wide range of environmentally friendly homewares and appliances, recycled art and fashion. The visitors can also take a toure of The Sustainable City, for a closer look at what life in the UAE’s first net zero energy villa community looks like.
