Good things happen in threes too. The Range Rover portfolio is now complete with the launch of the all-new Range Rover Sport, standing equidistant from its bigger brother and more compact sibling in its share of character and semblance.
It is hardly 10 weeks since the world caught its first glimpse of the new Range Rover Sport and I was already feasting on its leaner, meaner form at the Meydan Hotel in Dubai, thanks to a proactive Al Tayer Motors that pulled the right strings to be one of the first dealerships in the region to showcase the Sport. I doubt if they had to try too hard, after all this region is one of the most significant for the brand and their Sheikh Zayed showroom already boasts the highest Range Rover Sales from a single outlet.

On an evening marked by anticipation, drum roll and dignitaries, the Range Rover Sport emerged from the shadows to give me its first glimpse, never to show itself in full throughout the evening, as it was soon engulfed by an eager crowd, fawning over the latest toy for the big boys of the Middle East.
Recently unveiled by Daniel Craig at the New York Motor Show, the All-New Range Rover Sport is the flamboyant icon of adventure among the elegant Range Rover family and is touted as the fastest, most agile and most responsive vehicle ever produced by Land Rover.

Continuing from where the all-new Range Rover left the question of lightness, the all-new Sport makes use of the all-aluminium architecture to shed 420 kg in its TDV6 version, compared with the outgoing model.

The all-new Range Rover Sport is available at Al Tayer Motors across Dubai and the Northern Emirates in two variants – HSE and Autobiography, with a starting price of AED 379,000. There is also a new ‘Dynamic’ version of the Autobiography. Customers can choose from a wide range of colours, finishes and details to create the ultimate bespoke SUV. A choice of two supercharged petrol engines are available – the 5.0-litre 510PS V8 and the new 3.0-litre 340PS V6 – paired with the advanced electronically controlled ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic gearbox.

A choice of wheel designs ranging through 20, 21 and 22-inches in diameter including the iconic ‘Viper’s Nest’ wheel design, now available for the first time across all Range Rover models.
The all-new Range Rover Sport is almost half a ton less heavier than its big brother, similarly equipped and 2.5 inches longer than its predecessor. An additional two seats in the rear are optional.
The headlamps are similar to the Range Rover. Driver assist includes Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition and Automatic High Beam Assist.
Driving ability
New or enhanced chassis technologies for the new Sport include Adaptive Dynamics featuring continuously variable dampers (CVD), and on more powerful models, a dedicated Dynamic mode in the Terrain Response® 2 system for enthusiastic on-road driving. This system is combined with twin-channel Dynamic Response active lean control, a Dynamic Active Rear Locking Differential, and Torque Vectoring by Braking, which transfers torque to the outside wheels during cornering, reducing understeer.
