Porsche has announced its intention to replace engines of all 911 GT3 vehicles of model year 2014 after being plagued by two recent incidents of engine fires. Internal analyses have confirmed that it was a loosened screw joint on the connecting rod that caused the engine damage. The loose connecting rod damaged the crankcase, in turn leading to a leakage of oil which ended up catching fire.
Porsche has advised the owners of all affected 785 vehicles to desist from using the cars until a Porsche Centre picks them up and replaces them with engines featuring optimised screw fittings. The rectification is carried out in models that are yet to be sold as well. Porsche points out that no other 911 models or other model series are affected by this action.
