Just a month away from the busiest season of the year, the market woke up to cheers and accolades as April ushered in a wave of celebration through the MECOTY Awards 2018.
From compact sedans and premium SUVs to performance coupes and supercars, the awards covered twenty-five categories, which include the coveted ‘Car Of The Year’ awards as well – of which there are two, one determined by the jury and another chosen by the public, both equally prestigious.
On its course to being chosen for the ‘Public COTY’ award, the Peugeot 3008 won 16.3% of more than 70,000 votes cast. The French brand can see it as a nod to their revamped design and product strategy, and comes soon after Peugeot inaugurated its first regional office in the Middle East. Audi upheld its pride of place of winning the most awards so far by holding on to three prestigious slots. Notable among the new entrants that were honoured are the Range Rover Velar, the Volkswagen Arteon and the Volvo XC40.

Into their 5th edition, the MECOTY awards are being regarded as a testimony to the regional acceptance of a model by both the automobile experts and the consumers alike. The nominees were evaluated by a panel 16 judges picked from countries across the GCC, Levant and Egypt.
