Continental named 2017 Tire Manufacturer
German tyre manufacturer Continental has been honoured by the trade journal ‘Tire Technology International’ as the ‘Tyre Manufacturer of the Year’. The honour is for initiating key innovation and excellence projects including the opening of Continental’s High Performance Technology Center, the Taraxagum project for the industrialization of natural rubber from dandelion roots and the production of the first ever truck tyre with tread made of dandelion rubber. Continental had also opened a research and development centre for agricultural tyres in Portugal, and expanded their truck tyre production operations in the Czech Republic. Continental produced over 150 million passenger car and light truck tyres worldwide according to their press release.
Toyota Dream Car Art Finalists can fly to Japan
Al-Futtaim Motors has announced the third edition of Toyota’s global initiative, the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest. The event is designed to inspire creativity in youth and encourage interest in making the world a better place. 30 schools from the UAE are expected to participate, across three different age groups: below 7, 8 to 11, and 12 to 15 years old. Interested students can show up at the following dates at the Toyota Dubai Festival City and Abu Dhabi Airport Road. All necessary painting and drawing supplies will be provided.

The last date for submissions is March 2nd, 2017. 9 top artworks from the UAE will be submitted to the global contest and those who make it to the final stages will be invited along with their parents or guardians on a trip to Japan to participate in an awards ceremony in August, 2017. While in Japan winners will visit a Toyota factory and get to experience different facets of the Japanese culture.
The event has garnered huge interest in two years and more than 850,000 entries from 81 countries were submitted to the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest last year.
Dubai International Boat Show from 28 Feb to 4 March
The region’s biggest boat show turns 25. Dubai International Boat Show will be held at the Dubai International Marine Club – Mina Seyahi, with the attendance of 87 new companies and brands and a participation of 60 countries. An impressive 38 global and regional launches; underwater drones and superyachts will be among the 450 boats and watercrafts at an estimated AED 1.5 billion in value. The 19 superyachts include the 77-metre Silverfast by Silver Yachts, the 70-metre Joy by Feadship and the 47-metre Majesty 155 by local manufacturer Gulf Craft.
Nissan flags off the Champions trophy’s journey around the world
With 100 days left for the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Nissan marked the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Trophy Tour. The trophy will travel the world and stop for celebratory events in many cities before it arrives in England at the start of the summer. The cricket gala will take place in England and Wales from the 1st to the 18th June and features the top eight one-day teams in the world. The launch of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Nissan Trophy Tour was held at the ICC Academy in Dubai’s Sport City.
