World Car Awards Shortlisted
Judged and chosen by journalists from across the world, the World Best Car awards are perhaps the most coveted and authentic of them all – including the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year awards that was instituted just a few years ago. It is not only a recognition but also an indicator of trends going forward. It speaks volumes that the top awards and shortlist in both instances have placed electric cars in Focus.
Kia EV9 has been named the supreme winner of the 2024 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) award. The judges lauded the EV9’s innovative design, advanced technology and versatility. Kia must be really placed after winning the World’s best car for 2023 in WWCOTY last year with their Niro. Interestingly, both the cars are electric, the EV9 being the brand’s recently introduced 7-seater. The EV9 is also in the top 3 list at the upcoming World Car of the Year awards.
The World Car of the Year top three finalists in six categories were announced at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The winners will be announced live during an awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show on March 27th as in previous years. The ‘Top Three’ finalists are BYD Seal (in the picture above), Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30 – yes, all of them pure electric models indeed! The non-EV fans will find solace in the presence of Ford Bronco, Mazda CX-90 and Hyundai Santa Fe in the final list. The 2024 ‘World Electric Vehicle’ shortlist consists of BMW i5, Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30. 2024 ‘World Performance Car’ award shortlist reads BMW M2, BMW XM and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. The ‘World Urban Car’ winner will be chosen from among BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX and Volvo EX30 while the ‘World Car Design of the Year’ will be awarded to the winner among Ford Bronco, Ferrari Purosangue and Toyota Prius.
There is a reason for the World Car of the Year awards to be so prestigious. It is recommended and chosen by over 100 distinguished automotive journalists from 29 countries and supported by AITASTIC Research & Consult, BREMBO, the Geneva International Motor Show, the New York International Auto Show, KPMG and Newspress. The models considered must have a minimum volume of 10,000 cars per year and must be on sale in at least 2 major markets out of the seven worldwide.
