Privacy is the greatest luxury of our times. So it is for a couple on honeymoon, a Hollywood celebrity or royalty.

Who knows as much as Rolls-Royce Motor Cars about luxury? It is their raison d’etre to explore and attain new levels of luxury for its influential clients. From 1925 onwards, power brokers, kingmakers and tycoons have negotiated the course of history in the deep and reassuring privacy afforded to them by the rear compartment of a Rolls-Royce.

Today, Rolls-Royce has once again underlined that most desirable attribute of an exclusive carriage at the 2018 Chengdu Motor Show. The ‘Privacy Suite’ has been introduced in the new Extended Wheelbase Phantom. As it has over the past 90 years, Phantom continues to compel the world’s most influential and enigmatic individuals by offering the kind of ‘luxury of privacy’ that they demand on their travels.

The Privacy Suite turns the rear cabin into an island of luxury and comfort, connected to the world only at the occupant’s wish and command. Without compromising on the legendary luxury and spacious comfort, it utilizes state-of-the-art technology with the integration of Electrochromatic Glass. This allows the front and rear cabins to be visually separated at the touch of a button. The rear passenger can choose to see the road through the glass or to build an opaque wall ahead of him or her. WATCH VIDEO

If a Rolls-Royce cabin is already celebrated as the quietest, now the sound absorption ability and acoustic insulation of this space attain a new paradigm. A frequency-specific compound prevents conversations from being carried across from the rear cabin to the front cabin. For communication, there is a fully integrated Intercom System, whose control rests with the rear passenger. The press of a button opens a direct line to the driver while the driver can ‘call’ the rear occupant, who makes the choice to answer or reject the request.

For the exchange of things, like a document or a package, there is a large aperture controlled solely by the rear passenger. When open, the aperture is discretely illuminated to ensure passengers are satisfied with the nature of the documents or objects before they receive them. Private entertainment too takes a new turn with the integrated bespoke rear theatre entertainment system. There are two high definition 12-inch monitors linked to the fully connected software suite as well as an HDMI port, using which the passengers can securely synchronise their personal devices. The entertainment system is controlled from the centre console and is part of the exclusive rear ambience set by the starlight headliner (the canopy of starlit sky that spreads above the Phantom occupant) and clock. The quality of privacy is complete with the rear and side curtains and rear privacy glass. The Bespoke Phantom will be showcased at the Chengdu Motor Show at the Rolls-Royce stand HALL9 H918, from 31 August to 9 September 2018. WATCH THE VIDEO
