Al-Futtaim Motors, exclusive distributors of Toyota in the UAE announced the launch of Toyota’s fourth-generation RAV4 last week. A reinvention of the crossover sport utility vehicle that was the prime choice of those who chose to stay away from the bulky SUVs but wanted a sporty and small version of it, the new RAV4 is a bold and athletic version of the model.

The high seatbacks and a slim back, enhances rear-passenger knee room by 9 mm.

The RAV4 has sold 4.5 million units in over 150 countries around the world, and now gives all the more reasons to stay ahead in a market crowded with crossovers. Over the years, the RAV4 has grown in size and capability in a bid to stay current with the Crossover market that continues to stay as close to the original SUV concept while playing up its urban side.

The rear styling reminds of the Dodge Caliber with the squarely jutting-out rear lights.

Safety and Driver Assistance

For 2013, RAV4 is available with Toyota’s 2.5-liter (2494cc) naturally aspirated four-cylinder, which produces 176 SAE net horsepower at 6000 rpm and 172 lbs-ft. of torque at 4,100 rpm. The earlier RAV4’s four-speed automatic is replaced by a six-speed transmission offering 10% faster acceleration, 5% more fuel mileage, quieter cabin a high speeds and smoother operation, according to Al Futtaim Motors.

The boot will now open upwards with its roof-hinged liftgate unlike the previous side-hinged rear door. The rear-mounted spare tyre has given way to a stowaway in the boot for better rear visibility.

The new RAV4 also has a Sport Mode with Dynamic Torque Control 4WD, enhancements in suspension performance, and optimized electric power steering with the dampers following suit. Six airbags are standard while Toyota’s Star Safety System is present too with an array of driver assist features including an Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control in 4WD models and an automatic LSD (Limited Slip Differential) in 2WD models. The latter promises more surface compliance even on sand as well as when one wheel is off the road.

The front bears the new signature smile of Toyota, aiming to mix aggressive with an extra element of fun!
