Subaru launches Compact SUV

Subaru XV is the marque's bid for the compact SUV segment

Just over a week ago, Al Khoory Automobiles unveiled Subaru XV, a crossover compact SUV in the UAE. The vehicle comes with a new generation 2.0 L horizontally opposed Subaru Boxer Engine that yields 147 bhp of power and a maximum torque of 196Nm. The flat boxer engine results in a low centre of gravity offering better stability and control. The Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) ensures smooth shifting of gears and also improves fuel efficiency to deliver 7.9L/100km, going by company stats.

Lighter components, a high level of throttle response and enhanced stability and control are expected to be trademarks of the new Compact SUV. Subaru’s core technology of Symmetrical All Wheel Drive goes beyond just safety on slick roads to deliver intensified driving experience on any road surface. The sleek yet muscular crossover blends five star safety ratings, eco-friendly features and a funky personality with the ultimate experience in urban and adventurous driving.

Subaru XV will be available in the UAE from March 2012

In the reassuring words of Mr. Nayyar Zaidi, General Manager – Marketing & Sales Al Khoory Automobiles, “We are looking at expanding Subaru SUV market in the UAE. While the demand for SUVs is still there, there is a greater preference for smaller 4x4s as buyers take fuel efficiency and the environment into consideration. With the new XV, we will capitalize on this demand. We are targeting youth and adventure loving families. The car’s youthful styling and vibrant colour palette will surely attract the younger generation while spacious interiors and cargo space make it ideally suited for families that like to spend time outdoors.”

Targeting 10 percent share of the Japanese SUV market in the UAE, the car will go on sale in March 2012. Customers can start booking their models of choice much earlier.

Subaru’s new Sharjah showroom and expansion plans

Al Khoory Automobiles had launched a 40,000 sq ft Subaru showroom and service centre in Sharjah, earlier this month. With AED 40 million worth expansion plans which include a showroom in Ras Al Khaimah in the near future, finally, Subaru is attempting to demand its due in this market with its new 2012 line-up waiting to access the showrooms.

Despite being one of the most reliable brands with high residual value in the US and elsewhere, Subaru is still a niche brand in the UAE – preferred mostly by western expats and the western educated who are familiar with the brand’s motor sports legacy and superior driving experience. According to the Marketing Head, the brand has shown steady growth with sales going up by 40 percent in 2010-2011 and aims at pushing the figures to an impressive 45%.

Subaru’s acclaimed and much awarded core technology Horizontally Opposed Subaru Boxer Engine and Symmetrical All Wheel Drive (AWD) imparts Subaru vehicles with highest safety in all road conditions, excellent driving performance, and intelligent packaging. The only automobile company other than Porsche that uses horizontally opposed Boxer engine, brand Subaru was recently named the “Top brand for 2012” in the ALG Awards for highest residual value.
