Tawasul, prominent taxi-service provider in the emirate of Abu Dhabi has added 907 Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicles to its fleet, while Arabia Taxi placed a massive order for a thousand.
Tawasul has a long-term vision of converting its entire fleet to environmentally-friendly taxis, in order to accelerate the implementation of the UAE Government’s sustainability targets and actively contribute to enhancing the country’s clean air index. This makes Tawasul Abu Dhabi’s largest hybrid fleet operator.
The previous day, Al Futtaim Motors handed over 454 Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) to Arabia Taxi, member of Arabia Holdings Group of companies and one of the UAE’s largest taxi operators, as part of a larger deal of 1000 Toyota cars that comprises Camry HEV, Prius and petrol engine Camry. (Pictured above) Al-Futtaim Toyota has been furthering the cause of sustainable mobility in the environmental mobility agenda within the UAE Vision 2021.
Commenting on the handover, Saud Abbasi, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Toyota said: “Arabia Taxi has been our loyal partner since 2005, and among the early adopters of our efficient and responsible HEV mobility solutions. They had previously ordered a fleet of 50 Prius, making them the first taxi fleet operator in the UAE to use a Prius in their ranks.”
The new generation Camry HEV runs 26km for a litre of gasoline, 9 more Km compared to 2.5 L petrol-engine Camry, and is able to save 52,000 kg of CO2 by the time it covers around 500,000 Kms. Based on this math, these 907 Camry HEVs are expected to collectively save 47,164,000 kg (47 million) of CO2 over their lifecycle.
His Excellency Jumaa Saeed Al Kaabi General Manager of Tawasul Transportation Company said: “We at Tawasul are committed to providing distinguished transport services through our adherence to “Quality, Comfort and Safety”. With the addition of our first batch of electrified taxis, we aim to provide more eco-conscious travel solutions that will support the UAE government’s green initiatives. (Occasion captured below.) This came on the heel of an order of 50 previous generation Camry HEV in 2017, a move that proved to be sensible at all levels, especially from a sustainability perspective”.
Camry HEV can be driven entirely by either electrical power with zero-fuel consumption and carbon emissions, or with a combination of a petrol engine and two electric motors. The batteries in the hybrid electric drivetrain are automatically charged by either the petrol engine or when braking and decelerating, eliminating the need to plug in a power cable.
