What are you doing this weekend, or the one half left of it? Heading for the Dubai canal is a good idea, for two reasons – one, that is a new landmark worth visiting and even if you have already been there, this week it has transformed itself into a different world as the venue of the Dubai International Boat Show.

For people looking to be seafarers in the half the nautical mile they see on a weekend watery outing, there are options starting from as low as AED 21,000 and 30,000. The former, a 2-seater jet-ski and the latter, a compact powerboat good for dashing around. Part-jet ski and part inflatable boat, there is a speedster aptly named SeaKart starting at AED 99,000 or an outright thrill of the open sea in an open-top cruiser powerboat making its global debut at AED 320,000.

Entertainment

Music makes waves

The Boat Show is not about boats and water sports either. There is music for everyone to enjoy. Arab singing sensations Oraib Hamdan and Faisal Al Jassem are playing too. Tonight 6.45 to 7.45 it’s Oraib (That’s her on top!). Anyway for all-time entertainment, there is Nikki Beach Lounge where signature music and entertainment, served with a worldwide selection of food may be enjoyed.

Diving and marine sport equipment as well as navigation and controls are on show.

Adventures of the Boat Show visitor

Water is a great place for fun, sport and daring. Dutch flyboarding champion Bo Krook and Emirati No. 1 Manea Al Marzooqi challenge the water and laws of physics with their acrobatics. These and other gravity defying stunts like Red Bull Pro Athlete Alex Mason’s slack-lining stunts last 20 minutes every hour, from 4.00 to 6.00 pm today 4.00 to 7.00 tomorrow.

If it has a dash of the sea, it is here. A trip to Djibouti for instance!

SHOWSTOPPERS!

See an array of yachts and boats worth over AED 1.5 million creating a splash at the new Dubai Canal. See Foiler, the powerboat that can fly! It can glide 1.5 m above water at 40 knots per hour.

F1 Powerboat raced by the Victory Team of UAE is on show and the latest boats using their powerful technology.

There is much more, like a huge kids play area and family attractions. If I hang around telling you all about it, I am gonna miss the Dubai International Boat Show. So, will update this post with pictures soon. (I kept my promise, hope you like the catch!)

Dubbed the 'flying boat' this vessel from Foiler uses two BMW hybrid engines to charge ahead and hydrofoils that stay above the surface to splice through water, making choppy rides a thing of the past!
